This is an economy shared tour for foreign climbers to reduce their cost for Mt Damavand trip, it is based on 4 days itinerary. We organize these tours each year, enabling newcomers to visit the beauties of t his magnificent 5671m volcano and give them the opportunity to tackle the summit of Middle East. We guide many climbing teams, mountaineering groups and other trekking individuals to the Damavand summit in this category every summer, we share our experience to give them best chance of success.

You may book any time in advance before the tour, but to make sure of your palce in this tour, it is requierd to registrer before 1 July 2010, and finish the registration procedure.

Four Days Shared Tour Itinerary 1-4 August 2010
South route Damavand summer tour, for foreign climbers visiting Iran .

Day 1 - Arrival Day - 1 August 2010
Transfer from Tehran International Airport (IKA ) or your hotel in Tehran to:
First Camp Polour Hut, 2270 m, just rest in the hut for acclimatization, no climbing or hard exercises and no pollution of Tehran weather , over night in Polour Hut.

Day 2 - Starting Day - 2 August 2010
Transfer from Camp 1 toward Camp2 Base, as far as car can go, and by 4 to 6 hours trekking to Camp 3 New Hut , over night in Camp 3 New Hut.

Day 3 - Summit Day - 3 August 2010
Team start climbing at about 5 am towards Summit, and then return back to camp3, second night in New Hut.

Day 4– Return Day - 4 August 2010
We descend down to camp2, drive to camp1 and then to Tehran, tour ends.

Mount Tochal 3965m , adjacent to metropolitan Tehran is one of the best places to practice and get acclimatize for Mount Damavand . It is one of the most popular and most crowded mountain not only in Iran but also in the world. Every Thursday and Friday , Iranian weekends , thousands of Iranian climber go to Mount Tochal for hiking & trekking and rock climbing .

Mount Tochal
Mount Tochal is a mountain in the Alborz range and adjacent to metropolitan Tehran, Iran. The mountain has a 12 km long ridgeline. The highest peak, also called Mount Tochal, is at an elevation of 3,964 m (13,005 feet) and at coordinates 35.88° N 51.42° E. A seven station gondola lift runs from Tehran to the Tochal Ski Resort and a modern hotel. Tochal is a popular recreational region for Tehran's.

Peaks
A number of peaks are accessible from the Tochal main ridge or by their own climbing paths. Peaks (from west to east) include:

Lavarak (3560m)
Accessible by main Tochal ridge or Imamzade Davood climbing path.

Bazarak (3753m)
Accessible by main Tochal ridge or Imamzade Davood climbing path.

Palang-chal (3520m)
Accessible from Darakeh valley and Palangchal Shelter.

Sar-Bazarak (3640m)
Accessible from Palangchal peak and main Tochal ridge.

Shah-Neshin (3875m)
Accessible from Tochal main ridge, Hezarcham path and south (Abshar-Dogholoo) ridge.

Tochal (3965m)
The highest peak of the range, accessible by any climbing path that ends on the Tochal main ridge. The usual path from Tehran is by the south ridge (normally from Shirpala shelter and Siahsang hut).

Spilit (3120m):
Through Band-yakh-chal and Shervin hut by rock climbing or Klakchal ridge.

West Lezon (3585m)
Accessible from Tochal main ridge, Kolakchal shelter or Shirpala shelter.

East Lezon or Piaz-chal (3540m)
Accessible from Tochal main ridge, Kolakchal shelter or Shirpala shelter.

Kolak-chal (3300m)
From Kolakchal shelter (through Golab-dareh valley, Vezbad valley or Jamshidieh park)

Siah-band (3320m)
From Dar-abad valley and Dar-abad hut.

Gondola lift
Tochal has a long gondola lift which begins from Velenjak valley at 1900m and ends in the last station at 3740m near the main ridge
of Tochal. This gondola lift is used for accessing ski resorts and other recreational centers on the mountain. The gondola lift has four
stations:
Station 1 is at an elevation of 1900m and located at the beginning of Velenjak valley (end of Velenjak Street). Parking, inns and some other facilities are available.
Station 2 is at 2400m and has very limited facilities.
Station 5 is at 2935m. There is a restaurant and a rescue center. This station is in the middle of one of the ski slopes which is open
only in mid winter. This station is also accessible through several climbing paths like Shirpala shelter, Osoon valley and Palang-chal shelter.
Station 7 is at 3740m and very close to the Tochal main ridge. It is the last station of the gondola lift. This station is in the middle of the Tochal ski slope. The Tochal main peak is 30 minutes walk from this point. This station is also reachable from Hezar-cham climbing path from Station 5.

توچال
توچال قله‌ای در شمال تهران و به ارتفاع ۳۹۶۲ متر می‌باشد که بخشی از دامنه رشته‌کوه‌های البرز است. دامنه جنوبی توچال مجاور با شهر تهران و قله آن مشرف به این شهر است. مشهورترین و پررفت و آمدترین پناهگاه‌ها و جان پناه‌های توچال به ترتیب از شرق به غرب کلک‌چال، شروین، شیرپلا، ایستگاه پنجم تله کابین، اسپیدکمر و پلنگ‌چال هستند که همگی آنها مشرف به تهران هستند. تله‌کابین توچال (علاوه بر تله‌سی‌یژ مختصر منطقه دربند) دارای بالابر است و پیست توچال تنها مکان قابل اسکی این منطقه‌است. ایستگاه سوم این تله کابین در ۲۰۰۰ متری از سطح دریا، ایستگاه پنجم در ۳۰۰۰ متری و ایستگاه هفتم در ارتفاع ۳۷۰۰ متری از سطح دریا است. از سال ۲۰۰۳ میلادی مهمان‌پذیری به نام «هتل توچال» در ایستگاه هفتم تله‌کابین توچال تکمیل و راه‌اندازی شده‌است. نمای این هتل از چوب بوده و به هر دو دامنه البرز (تهران در دامنه جنوبی و روستاهای شمال و جاده چالوس در دامنه شمالی) اشراف دارد. بنا به اظهارات مجموعه تله کابین توچال، این هتل با ارتفاعی حدود ۳۷۰۰ متر از سطح دریا، مرتفعترین هتل دنیا می‌باشد. قدیمی ترین جانپناه کوهنوردی ایران (اسپید کمر) در جنوب قله توچال و شرق ایستگاه ۵ قرار دارد .

Volcanic Activity of Damavand
Volcanic activity of Volcano Damavand became unusual and much higher than usual in 2007, when reaching that area keep away from these smokes and. In case of feeling too much gas a handkerchief spread with vinegar is enough to pass the area. You do not necessarily need oxygen mask , it is optional.

Volcano Damavand Volcanic Activity

I noticed a new change in 19 June 2007 for the first time. A small amount of red material is coming out of main and most active part of volcanic area plus a great amount of sulphur gas and steam. I am not sure what kind of material is this red one ?! but I can say it is not lava or fire !! perhaps it is hot sulphur . I think these changes worth some kind of research. It is not so safe to get closer to get a better picture by ordinary cameras , but still you can see these red substance in photos.

Mt Damavand Icefall or icy fall ( Farsi name Abshar Yakhi , abshar=fall , yakhi=icy) , is about 12m tall at 5100m altitude, the highest fall in Iran and Middle East, not sure about its rank in the world ?! Its location is near south climbing route, almost a permenant icefall for many years, only in a very hot summer it may collapse. The beauty of this wonderful icy fall attract even tired climbers to change their way for a quick visit to this strange icefall.

Mt Damavand has a lot of thermal springs with therapeutic qualities, these minral hot springs are mainly located on the volcano's flanks and at the base , giving evidence of volcanic heat comparatively near the surface of the earth . Although Damavand is believed to be extinct and while no historic eruptions of the Volcano Damavand are recorded , hot springs on the flanks of the volcano and fumaroles (steam vents) in the summit crater suggest that a hot or cooling magma body is still present beneath the Volcano Damavand. This continuing activity, while minor, sulphorous fumaroles still emit gases at the peak, and hot springs in the valleys testify to a remaining heat source , indicates that Mount Damavand is a dormant rather than an extinct volcano.
The most important of these hot springs are located in Abe garm Larijan .
Larijan is located in a village by the same name in the district of Larijan in Lar Valley . The water from this spring is useful in the treatment of chronic wounds, and skin diseases. Near these springs there are public baths with small pools for public use.
If you have enough time after your climb to Mount Damavand , it is a good idea to go to Abe Garm Larijan 5 km from Reyneh, which you may use the benefit of mineral hot water springs of Damavand and spend a night there. Taking a bath in the basin of hot minaral water of Larijan let you forget about all the exhaustion of Mount Damavand climb very fast , and of course , dont forget the persian chelo kabab afterward !

The volcano Damavand in northern Iran has a small lake in its summit crater during the summer. This one sounds remarkably similar to "Lake Licancábur". The summit crater is about 150 m wide and 20 m deep, with a 40-m diameter frozen lake in the bottom. Although the summit rises to 5,670 m above sea level, there is no permanent glacier because of the dry climate.Therefore "Damavand Pool" is at 5,650 meters above sea level. It appears that Damavand Pool cannot qualify as a true lake because it's too small, and because it disappears during the winter. It's not clear if the pool vanishes during the winter because it evaporates completely, sinks into the soil, or because it freezes solid down to the bottom. In 1881 the summit crater had no lake, only snow: This is what Mr. Stack, in 1881, had to say of the view: 'From the summit which consists of a crater with snow and ice, a horizon of 50,000 square miles is unrolled in clear weather. The crater is some 200 yards in diameter, girt with a ring of yellow rocks of nearly pure sulfur, exhaling a pestiferous smell. The hollow is entirely filled up with snow.

Natural red poppy fields start blooming beigining of May in low parts and gratually covers the upper parts . Mount Damavand is a silent volcano located in Alborz Range . On most days of the year in clear condition the summit can be seen not only from Tehran but also far from 150 kilometers away . it looks like Fujiyama in Japan but much greater . I believe that its snowy white top with its regular clouds is the most beautiful sight of Iran . There has been no eruption of Damavand in historical times and records so it is regarded as extinct silent volcano. There are some hot springs on its lower slopes like Larijan village . At the summit there is a crater about 150-200 meters across , with a lot of yellow sulfurous rocks and pumice stones. At about 5000 meters there are also some sulfuric gas making a little problem for climbers . Snow covers the crater and upper slopes in winter, spring and autumn . Because of its great height , the view from top of Damavand is very extensive , a big panorama of mountains and valley covering many hundred of square Kilometers . All around are other peaks of the Alborz range, in the north to the Caspian Sea plain and in the south descending to the deserts of central of iran . In fact it is the not only the highest peak in Iran , but also the highest in Middle East and the highest if you travel from Europe eastward to Iran .
